Recognising Wood Moulding Designs Worldwide.

There are literally thousands of wood moulding designs, both standard (most common) to the not so common. Add this to the variety of names given to the same or similar design throughout different countries and you have one heck of a challenge to name a design. This can be most annoying when trying to quote for job, for example.

Obviously, you can most easily relate to the designs in your country, but sometimes even this is difficult. For example, I am currently looking at a catalogue from an old timber company (1905) called the West of England Steam Joinery Company and in their catalogue there are wood moulding designs that I have never even heard of, never mind seen.

So what do you do. Well, the best way I know is to use pictures. Yes, back to basics - get hold of a catalogue from the country you are interested in and do the same for your own country and compare the wood moulding designs in their respective categories. One problem, if your target catalogue is not in not English then pictures are all you have. Still a great way to relate to the various wood moulding designs though!
